Just recently, Suzuki showcased the all-new Swift at the Japan Mobility Show and the car has already been spotted testing on Indian roads. Expected to launch in 2024, the Maruti Suzuki Swift gets a complete overhaul right from the exterior design to big updates on the inside. The Swift will also be powered by the latest engine Suzuki has to offer.
In terms of design, the silhouette remains the same to maintain familial similarities to the current-gen Swift. This doesn’t discount the fact the hatch gets proper changes to distinguish itself from the crowd. The front, for example, gets an all-new face, with a smaller, blacked-out grille. The bonnet has been fashioned into a new clam-shell style and the headlamps have been tweaked and blacked out for a sportier appearance complete with a new set of LED DRL signatures.
Lower down, the bumper has been updated with new fog lamp housings and a silver faux skid plate. In profile, the most noticeable change is the conventional position of the rear door handle compared to the C-pillar-mounted handles on the current-gen car. At the back, too, the tail lamps have been tweaked and there is a new bumper to keep things fresh.
Over on the inside, Suzuki has brought the Swift’s interiors in line with some of the newer cars in the company’s profile such as the Fronx, Baleno and Grand Vitara. The dashboard is new, highlighted by a dual-tone black-and-white theme. At the centre is a new 9-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system that will come complete with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The three-spoke flat-bottomed steering wheel is the same as before, but the hatch should have a few more tricks up its sleeves in the features department. For one, we expect the higher variants to come equipped with at least Level-I ADAS functionality, ambient lighting, rear AC vents, keyless entry, push-button start-and-stop, rain-sensing wipers, cruise control, 360-degree camera and others.
There are big changes to the powertrain, too. The new Maruti Suzuki Swift is likely to be powered by the company’s new Z-series petrol unit. This new 1.2-litre naturally aspirated unit claims better fuel efficiency and performance numbers compared to the current K-series engine.
Of course, the company is being tight-lipped about specific numbers, but something along the lines of 100 hp and 120 Nm is a reasonable ask. Internationally, the Swift will be available with some form of hybrid electrification as well, but we will have to wait and see if that makes it to our shores too. Transmission will include both manual and automatic options.
When launched, the Maruti Suzuki Swift will be priced at a slight premium compared to its current-gen counterpart. The Swift currently starts at a price tag of Rs 5.99 lakh, ex-showroom, so expect a slight hike over this. As far as competition goes, the 2024 Swift will continue to go up against the likes of the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, Tata Punch, Renault Triber and others.
