Most people think that sitting down the toilet is a simple, natural thing to do, but we unknowingly perform pooping routines that could be causing us stress. From how we sit down to how long we linger, these small and subtle errors can add up over time and contribute to everything from pain and discomfort to digestive difficulties or other more serious long-term health problems.

Scrolling your phone for too long while you make use of the toilet, for example, might feel like it’s not doing any harm — but it increases pressure in a way that can cause issues like haemorrhoids. Dr Radhika Narang, a gastroenterologist in Delhi, told Moneycontrol that small modifications in a person’s daily bathroom behaviour can change their life.

Sitting Too Long

If you linger on the toilet — especially while reading from your phone — you put additional pressure on those veins, raising the risk of haemorrhoids. The fix: Go when you need to, get it over with quickly and don’t linger there.
