Vidya Balan, a well-known actress, recently talked about a tough time in her early acting career on the Something Bigger Show with Rodrigo Canelas. During that time, she was wrongfully called a "jinx" in South Indian cinema.
The Parineeta diva said that a shelved Malayalam movie with superstar Mohanlal not only delayed her first movie but also cost her 8 to 9 movie prospects in the South.
Vidya's Malayalam Debut That Was Put on Hold
Vidya was going to do her first Malayalam movie, Chakram, which was directed by Kamal and starred Mohanlal. But the project ran into problems right away. "I must have shot for six or seven days," she said. "There were problems between the director and Mohanlal; therefore, the shoot stopped. I didn't know any better; I assumed that's how movies worked. After being told the shoot was on hold, Vidya finally went back to Mumbai. After that, there was a brief period of enthusiasm. "People started talking about this South Indian girl making a Malayalam movie at a time when most actresses in the South were North Indian or Punjabi," she said.
From Excitement to Letdown
The hype got Vidya a lot of offers for South Indian projects. She said that she was in talks for 8 or 9 movies. "Filmmakers began to call me, read scripts to me, and talk about pay. "I thought I had made it," she said with a giggle. "I felt like a star." But the thrill didn't last long. After Chakram was formally put on hold, all the other bids disappeared. Vidya thinks it was an instance of mistaken superstition.
"They started to say that my energy was what made Chakram go on the shelf. They felt I was bad luck. What happened to Chakram? The first version of Chakram, which starred Mohanlal and Vidya Balan, was never released. The late filmmaker A.K. Lohithadas, on the other hand, brought the plot back to life later. In the end, the movie was made with a different cast. Prithviraj Sukumaran played the major part, and Meera Jasmine took over as the female lead from Vidya.

A Setback That Helped Her Rise
Even though it was hard for Vidya Balan, her career in Bollywood took off. She became one of the most revered personalities in Indian cinema thanks to her strong performances in movies like The Dirty Picture, Kahaani, and Tumhari Sulu. Vidya tells her experience today not as a complaint, but as a monument to her strength, as she thinks back on those early hardships. She seems to be saying, "Sometimes, rejections are redirections," and her story is a great example of this.
