The much-awaited premiere of Bigg Boss Tamil 9 was held on Sunday (October 5) with Vijay Sethupathi returning as the host yet again. He welcomed 20 contestants from different backgrounds, with each one of them ready to face their journey inside the house. A look at the contestants:
1. Diwakar (aka “Watermelon Star”)
A practising doctor and social media creator, Diwakar made his mark by blending humour, quirky content and offbeat videos. His approach is loose, informal that could help him diffuse tension, but as Vijay Sethupathi warned, doing the same things inside the house may get stale. He’ll have to recalibrate for the pressure cooker environment.
2. Aurora Sinclair
Model, actress, digital storyteller, Aurora comes with polish and global sensibilities. She’s comfortable in front of cameras and likely to bring style, confidence, and strategic social play. But grit and adaptability will be tested once alliances form and tasks get brutal.
3. FJ Adisayam
Seen in Suzhal: The Vortex, Aranmanai 4, and more, FJ is also a beatboxer and rap artist. His calm, composed presence may work as a stabilizer in the house. He can ride with minimal drama—unless conflicts drag him in.
4. VJ Parvathy (VJ Paaru)
As a television presenter and YouTuber, Parvathy has on-screen ease and a sharp tongue. She can hold conversations, take charge, and mediate. But aggressive moves might paint her as threatening; she needs balance.
5. Tushaar
Bold, fashion-savvy, and unafraid to be different. Tushaar’s appearance at the premiere with dance and style already got eyes on him. His confidence is his weapon — but it can also rub people the wrong way if he’s perceived as showy or attention-seeking.
6. Kani Thiru
Winner of Cooku With Comali 2, daughter of director Agathiyan, Kani has already navigated a reality-show environment and carved a path in web series and acting. Her previous exposure might give her a baseline strategy, though she’ll have to adapt to a more psychologically intense format like Bigg Boss.
7. Sabari Nadhan
Best known from TV serials (e.g. Ponni) and lighthearted roles, Sabari brings warmth and affability. He may survive by being friendly and cooperative. But he’ll need to grow thicker skin when alliances shift and backroom politics emerge.
8. Pravin Gandhi
Director-actor Pravin has walked the corridors of the Tamil film industry. His behind-the-camera experience might help him understand narratives, group dynamics, and character. He may also court friction if his opinions lean controversial — something his past suggests he isn’t fully averse to.
9. Vyishali Kemkar (RJ Kemy)
Known from Cooku With Comali, modeling, television — Vyishali has fan recall and a playful public image. Her charisma is a plus. The challenge is to avoid being typecast as just fun and bring depth when needed.
10. Aadhirai
She’s made appearances in Tamil films and serials (Bigil, Varalaru Mukkiyam, Theerkadarishi) and is gradually building her identity. Bigg Boss gives her a chance to be more than supporting actress fodder — she’ll need to show strategy, resilience, and a distinct personality to stay.
11. Ramya Joo
Fusing folk dance with social media influence, Ramya is an expressive performer. Her energy and cultural roots may attract audiences. But she will have to pivot from stage performance to the nuanced emotional warfare that reality TV demands.
12. Gana Vinoth
A singer, lyricist, and performer, Vinoth has creative depth. In the Bigg Boss house, that side may surface as emotional insight or diplomacy. He needs to guard against getting overshadowed when louder personalities clash.
13. Viyana
From modeling to acting and social media, Viyana knows how to package an image. In the house, she can use that awareness to play the optics game. But whether she can handle the strain when she’s forced to peel away layers of persona is the test.
14. Praveen Raj Devasagayam
Already familiar to TV audiences (serials like Kizhakku Vaasal, Eeramana Rojave), Praveen has fan support. His challenge is to not let familiarity become a crutch — he’ll have to reinvent himself in a pressured environment.
15. Subiksha
An influencer and “fisher girl” who shares stories of everyday life, Subiksha’s relatability is her strength. She could carve a niche among viewers. But she might struggle when confronted by strategic, ruthless players.
16. Apsara CJ
From Trivandrum with modeling and ramp walk experience, Apsara is less known in the Tamil entertainment circuit. Bigg Boss is her entry — she could either be an underdog surprise or be overwhelmed by stronger personalities early on.
17. Nandhini
A wellness anchor and fitness influencer, Nandhini brings energy, discipline, and a motivational vibe. In conflicts, she may prefer clarity and fairness over gamesmanship. That might work in her favour — unless she’s seen as too virtuous or predictable.
18. Vikram
Stand-up comedian, actor, content creator — Vikram is built for observational insight. His humour can defuse tension and make him a house favourite. But he’ll have to balance levity with seriousness, especially in tasks or when cards are revealed.
19. Kamarudin
Known from Tamil television (Mahanadhi), Kamarudin is steady and rooted. He may not be flash, but longevity often wins. If he plays intelligently, he could be among the quieter but resilient survivors.
20. Aghori Kalaiyaran
Also known as Aghori Kalaiyaran, he’s a social media influencer known for bold, even controversial acts and performances (like extreme physical feats). He brings unpredictability. In the Bigg Boss house, that can be a double-edged sword: attention, but also conflict, backlash, isolation.
