SS Rajamouli builds Rs 50 crore Varanasi set in Hyderabad for next SSMB29 schedule: Report

A major scene in the movie is set in Varanasi, but Rajamouli has chosen to recreate the city inside Ramoji Film City because of the logistical difficulties of filming there.

Filmmaker SS Rajamouli is currently immersed in the making of his ambitious project SSMB29, which features a stellar cast including Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Prithviraj Sukumaran.

According to a Hindustan Times report, the team is currently filming in Hyderabad on a large set that mimics the holy city of Varanasi after finishing two significant filming schedules. A major scene in the movie is set in Varanasi, but Rajamouli has chosen to recreate the city inside Ramoji Film City because of the logistical difficulties of filming there.

The enormous set, which is almost finished, has already garnered media attention after pictures of its elaborate design appeared on social media. This intricate set alone is said to have cost nearly Rs 50 crore to build. As promised, Rajamouli is doing everything in his power to guarantee authenticity and cinematic grandeur. This is where a significant amount of the movie will be filmed, including important scenes and a big action scene with Mahesh Babu.

Rajamouli will once again use green-screen technology in keeping with his signature style, and the film's visuals will be produced by some of the top Hollywood VFX studios in the world. In order to realise Rajamouli's vision on the big screen, the production team is spending a significant amount of money on the graphics department—many crores.
