BJP had a vote share of 34.52 percent in the last Lok Sabha election in Muslim-significant seats, trailing TMC with a 45.18 percent vote share.

With the counting of votes in Lok Sabha elections 2024 progressing,  Trinamool Congress (TMC) is set to win in 30 seats with BJP trailing with a lead in 11 seats in the state of West Bengal, as per the latest Election Commission of India (ECI) data.

As per the latest trends, the TMC’s voteshare is over 46 percent,  followed by the BJP at 38.20 per cent, and Congress at 4.65 per cent. While the Congress has managed to take lead in just one seat, the Left Front is yet to take lead in any seats.

In 2024 Lok Sabha elections, West Bengal voted in seven phases to elect 42 members of parliament. This state had a high-octane contest with TMC supremo and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee projecting BJP as an 'outsider' and the saffron party raking up the Sandeshkhali episode.

The BJP is trailing in critical constituencies like Balurghat and Coochbehar, where BJP’s state unit chief Sukanta Majumdar and Union Minister Nishith Pramanik contested respectively. The saffron party is also trailing in its stronghold Asansol, where it had won twice.

It may be recalled that in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP made significant inroads in Bengal by winning 18 seats, coming close behind the TMC that clinched 22 seats. Meanwhile Congress got only 2 seats.
