Congress party has swept the Kalyana Karnataka region by winning all five seats. Congress emerged victorious in the Koppal, Bellary, Bidar, Gulbarga, and Raichur LS segments.
In Raichur, Congress' G Kumar Naik beat BJP's Raja Amareshwara Naik by over 79,000 votes. Even in Bellary, Congress' E Tukaram defeated BJP's B Sreeramulu by over 98,000 votes.
In Kalaburagi, Congress’ Radhakrishna Doddamani has won against BJP’s Umesh G Jadhav. Doddamani is AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge’s son-in-law.
For AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, a good performance in his home state was crucial as he has taken on a bigger mandate of being a national leader.
After Kharge suffered a massive defeat from Kalaburagi in 2019 Lok Sabha elections, it ended his streak of eleven consecutive wins (nine assembly and two Lok Sabha elections), Kharge vigorously campaigned for his son-in-law, Radhakrishna Doddamani, in the same segment. The efforts seem to have paid off. Doddamani won a closely fought contest and won by a margin of 27,205 votes.
In Bidar, Congress' Sagar Eshwar Khandre beat BJP's Bhagwanth Khuba by nearly 1.3 lakh votes. In Koppal, Congress' Rajashekar Basavaraj Hitnal beat BJP's Basavaraj Sharanappa by over 46,000 votes.
The BJP, along with the JD(S), however won in 19 seats in Karnataka and Congress, on the other hand, won in a total of nine seats.
