As voting began for the seventh and final phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha election on June 1, Aam Aadmi Party chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal appealed to voters to exercise their franchise in large numbers “to protect democracy and the Constitution.”

“In this great festival of democracy, the country will vote in the last phase today. All of you are requested to exercise your right to vote in large numbers to protect democracy and the Constitution,” Mr. Kejriwal posted on X.

“Go to vote yourself and take your neighbours along with you. Dictatorship will lose, and democracy will win,” he added.

Mr. Kejriwal has been on bail in a money laundering case linked to the Delhi government’s now-scrapped excise policy. The Supreme Court granted him 21-day interim bail on May 10 to campaign during the Lok Sabha polls, directing him to surrender on June 2, a day after the final voting phase.

During his campaign, Mr. Kejriwal extensively criticized the BJP-led Union government, accusing it of being dictatorial and misusing central investigative agencies to crush the Opposition.

Former Bihar Deputy CM and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav downplays the significance of the INDIA alliance leaders' meeting, calling it a routine occurrence. He expresses confidence, stating, "We will get more than 300 seats. In Bihar, we will shocking results. We will get so many seats that BJP will not be able to form its govt in the Centre."

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha exercised his electoral right by casting his vote in Mohanpura village, Ghazipur.

Following her vote, Harsimrat Kaur Badal of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) emphasized, "I appeal to all the voters that they must go out and vote." She continued, "We must fight against the forces that are trying to weaken democracy and ensure that there is a strong democracy in India." Badal reiterated, "Our agenda has always been the same that is Communal harmony, peace and progress."

During the last phase of elections on Saturday, over 10.58% of the 1.62 crore voters in Bihar cast their votes in eight Lok Sabha seats by 9 am, officials reported. Polling commenced at 7 am in Patna Sahib, Patliputra, Arrah, Karakat, Jehanabad, Buxar, Nalanda, and Sasaram Lok Sabha seats, and will continue till 6 pm.

Patliputra registered the highest turnout at 12.39%, followed by Jehanabad (12.21%), Karakat (11.75%), Sasaram (11.18%), Patna Sahib (10.76%), Arrah (9.32%), Nalanda (9.17%), and Buxar (8.32%) by 9 am.

Additionally, voting is underway for the by-election to the Agiaon assembly segment in the Arrah Lok Sabha seat, recording a turnout of 8.50% till 9 am.

The by-poll was triggered by the disqualification of CPI (ML) Liberation MLA Manoj Manzil due to his conviction in a murder case. Shiv Prakash Ranjan represents the Left party in the by-election, while Prabhunath Prasad of JD (U) stands for the NDA.

Election authorities have reported an incident in 129-Kultali Assembly Constituency of 19-Jaynagar (SC) Parliamentary Constituency. A local mob looted Reserve Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and papers belonging to the Sector Officer near Benimadhavpur FP School. One Control Unit (CU), one Ballot Unit (BU), and two Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines were thrown into a nearby pond.

The Rajmahal seat sees a contest between JMM’s Borio legislator Lobin Hembrom, running as an Independent, and sitting JMM MP Vijay Hansdak, with the BJP fielding former state president Tala Marandi.

- Polling in the seventh and last phase of Lok Sabha elections to nine seats in West Bengal began at 7 am on Saturday amid tight security arrangements, an Election Commission of India (ECI) official said.
