The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has finally managed to open account in Kerala in with actor-turned politician Suresh Gopi winning in Thrissur by a margin of over 74000.
The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP))-led National Democratic Front (NDA), which has so far failed to open an account in Kerala and Gopi's win thus marks history for the Party in the southern state.
The state has been a stronghold for both LDF and UDF for decades whereas BJP has been struggling to make inroads.
There are around five seats that are considered BJP-focused constituencies in Kerala. These include Thrissur, Attingal, Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha and Pathanamthitta. But, none of the other seats were proved to be lucky for BJP in the state this time.
The 2024 Lok Sabha elections is crucial for both the Indian National Congress (INC) and the NDA in Kerala. With 20 Lok Sabha constituencies in contention, the state saw polling on April 26, achieving a voter turnout of 70.35%, down from 77.84% in 2019.
UDF bagged the state with 18 out of 20 seats.
