Delhi University (DU) has decided to postpone the upcoming law examinations, following student protests over the exam schedule at the Campus Law Centre (CLC). The exams, initially slated to begin on December 26, 2024, have been deferred, and a revised schedule will be announced after consultations with relevant stakeholders, a university official confirmed on Tuesday.
Student Protests and Allegations
The protests erupted on Monday, with law students demanding an extension of exam dates. They cited incomplete syllabus coverage, abrupt faculty changes, delays in course allotments, and sudden syllabus updates as reasons for their agitation. The demonstration escalated into a clash between students and the police, with students alleging that authorities resorted to lathi-charge and fired teargas shells, resulting in several injuries. However, Delhi Police denied these allegations.
University's Response
DU officials confirmed that the exam datesheet had been put on hold and assured students that a new schedule would be prepared in coordination with the examination branch. "The exams will not commence on December 26 as planned. We are consulting with all stakeholders to create a fresh datesheet," said DU Proctor Rajni Abbi.
Efforts to reach the dean and head of the law faculty, Anju Vali Tikoo, for comments were unsuccessful.

Hundreds of students gathered at the law faculty campus to express their concerns. They highlighted several issues, including:
- Delayed syllabus completion.
- Mid-course changes in faculty assignments.
- Delayed course and exam allotments.
- Sudden updates to the syllabus close to exam dates.
The university's decision to postpone the exams is seen as a move to address these concerns and ensure fair preparation time for students.
