Vietnamese EV manufacturer VinFast has opened bookings for its upcoming electric SUVs -- the VF 6 and the VF 7 -- in India. Prospective buyers can book the two models at VinFast showrooms or through the company's official website at a fully refundable booking amount of Rs 21,000.
The production of the VF 6 and the VF 7 will start at VinFast's Thoothukudi plant (Tamil Nadu) later this month. The official launch is scheduled to take place in the second half of August.
VinFast will locally assemble both electric SUVs in India, resulting in relatively affordable pricing due to lower duties.
While the company has committed an investment of USD 2 billion for its Thoothukudi plant, it will initially pump in USD 500 million. The facility will have an annual production capacity of 150,000 units when fully operational and create approximately 3,500 direct jobs, VinFast claimed.
The VF 6 electric SUV gets a 59.6 kWh battery. With an all-LED lighting set-up, it drives on 18-inch wheels. The cabin uses vegan leather with a dual-tone layout. It gets features like a powered driver seat, ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control and a heads-up display. Also available are features like a panoramic glass roof and Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
The VF 7 electric SUV shares several features with the VF 6 electric SUV like Level 2 ADAS, connected car techn, panoramic glass roof, wireless charging and LED lighting. However, the coampany has not shared its technical specifications yet.
VinFast has signed agreements with 13 dealer partners to establish 32 dealerships across 27 cities. The initial set of dealerships will be come up in cities like Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Cochin, Bhubaneshwar, Trivandrum, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Coimbatore, Surat, Calicut, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Shimla, Agra, Jhansi, Gwalior, Vapi and Baroda.
The company has also announced partnerships with RoadGrid, myTVS, and Global Assure to create a nationwide charging and after-sales service network. It has also joined hands with battery recycling firm BatX Energies.
