BMW has unveiled the new-generation BMW iX3, the first series-produced model from its Neue Klasse platform. The fully electric sports utility vehicle (SUV) marks the start of a new chapter for the German carmaker, combining fresh design, new digital features, and upgraded battery and motor technology.
The new iX3 will be produced at BMW's new plant in Debrecen, Hungary, starting November 2025. Market launch is scheduled for spring 2026 in Europe and summer 2026 in the US, with a China-specific version to follow from BMW's Shenyang plant. An entry-level variant is also planned. We expect the vehicle to be launched in India in 2026.
The maiden variant to be introduced is the iX3 50 xDrive. It comes with two electric motors producing a combined 345kW (469hp) and 645Nm of torque, enabling the SUV to accelerate from 0-100kmph in 4.9 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 210kmph.
At the core of the electric model is BMW's sixth-generation eDrive technology with cylindrical-cell batteries and an 800V system. The battery has a usable capacity of 108.7kWh, which gives the iX3 a WLTP range of 679km to 805km. Fast charging at 400kW can add up to 372km in 10 minutes, while a 10-80% charge takes 21 minutes. The SUV also supports bidirectional charging, meaning it can supply electricity to devices (V2L), homes (V2H), or even feed power back into the grid (V2G).
The new iX3 introduces BMW's next-generation design language. It is 4,782mm long, 1,895mm wide and 1,635mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,897mm. The exterior is marked by vertically arranged kidney grilles and a horizontal light signature that replaces chrome. The SUV has a drag coefficient of 0.24, which helps efficiency.
Inside, the cabin features a clean layout with a wraparound design. The BMW Panoramic iDrive, powered by the new Operating System X, projects information across the windscreen through Panoramic Vision, while a free-cut 17.9-inch central display and a new 3D head-up display complete the digital setup. The rear seat offers sofa-like comfort, and luggage capacity ranges from 520 litres to 1,750 litres, with an extra 58 litres under the bonnet.
The iX3 comes with four high-performance computers, called 'superbrains', that manage driving dynamics, automated driving, infotainment, and comfort systems. BMW's 'Heart of Joy' control unit coordinates drivetrain, brakes, and steering for smoother performance. Up to 98% of braking in daily driving is handled through energy recuperation.
Driver assistance includes the Motorway & City Assistant and new Symbiotic Drive with AI-supported brakes. The system allows smoother handover between driver and car, while lane keeping and adaptive cruise work more seamlessly than before.
BMW says the iX3 50 xDrive has 20% lower energy use compared to the previous generation. Around one-third of the car is made from secondary raw materials, including recycled plastics and aluminium. The company claims that the SUV can offset its higher production emissions in about one year of driving when charged with renewable energy.
