The Indian rupee opened 2 paise higher at Rs 45.65 per US dollar on the Interbank Foreign Exchange today, largely on dollar inflows and firming Asian currencies overseas.

Forex dealers said besides dollar inflows, gains posted by the euro and other Asian currencies against the American dollar supported the rupee's rise. However, a weak trend in the equity market capped the gains.

The rupee had gained 7 paise to close at Rs 45.67/68 against the US dollar in the previous session amid late dollar-selling and a rebound in the equity market.

The domestic currency had fallen to a nine-month low in opening trade. Meanwhile, the Bombay Stock Exchange Sensex was down by 50.72 points, or 0.31%, at 16,290.98 in opening trade today.
