Sensex, Nifty slip 4.9% this week

Indian equity benchmarks saw sharp sell-off this week. The 30-share BSE Sensex fell 891.33 points or 4.9%, to close at 17,305.87 and the Nifty ended the day at 5,211, down 271 points or 4.9%.

Indian equity benchmarks saw sharp sell-off this week. The 30-share BSE Sensex fell 891.33 points or 4.9%, to close at 17,305.87 and the Nifty ended the day at 5,211, down 271 points or 4.9%.

The CNX Midcap Index was down 4% and BSE Small Cap down 6%. The BSE Realty Index tanked 7.4%.

Among other sectors, BSE Auto, BSE Power and Bank Nifty were down 4.5-5%

In the largecap space, Reliance Capital plunged 14%. Sterlite Industries, Sesa Goa, Reliance Communications, M&M and DLF tumbled 9-11%.

However, BPCL shot up 7% and ONGC rose 2.9%.

Among midcaps, Godfrey Phillip was up 5% and Chambal Fertilisers up 6.6%.

However, Bombay Dyeing, Orchid Chemical, Alok Industries, Karnataka Bank, Bajaj Hindustan and Aban Offshore lost 10-12%.
