"A short while ago, the IDF identified missiles launched from Iran toward the territory of the State of Israel," it said in a statement, adding the public should enter protected shelters "and remain there until further notice".

A "massive explosion" was heard Friday in Isfahan, a major city in central Iran, in a province that is home to several nuclear facilities, Mehr news agency said.

"A few minutes ago, a massive explosion was heard in Isfahan," said Mehr, without immediately elaborating.

The Palestine Red Crescent Society said three children were injured by shrapnel on Friday, after Israel said a missile from Yemen landed near the occupied West Bank city of Hebron.

"Three children, aged six, seven and 12, were injured by shrapnel from a missile that fell in the town of Sair near Hebron", the Red Crescent said in a statement.

The Israeli military said that "a missile launched from Yemen fell in the area of Hebron, no interceptors were launched."

Iranian air defences intercepted "projectiles" over the capital Tehran on Friday, state media said, as Israel vowed to keep up pressure after a wave of strikes on military and nuclear sites.

"Enemy projectiles were intercepted by the Tehran air defence," state news agency IRNA said, with another agency, ISNA, reporting that "the air defence systems of Tehran successfully shot down targets".

The head of the UN nuclear watchdog said Friday that radiation levels outside Iran's Natanz uranium enrichment site following Israeli strikes "remained unchanged".

"The type of radioactive contamination present inside the facility, mainly alpha particles, can be managed with appropriate protective measures," International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) chief Rafael Grossi wrote on X.

The newly appointed commander of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Mohammad Pakpour, threatened on Friday to open "the gates of hell" in retaliation for Israel's attacks that killed his predecessor Hossein Salami.

"In retribution for the blood of our fallen commanders, scientists and citizens, the gates of hell will soon be opened upon this child-killing regime," Pakpour said of Israel in a message carried by state news agency IRNA.

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi condemned on Friday Israel's "cowardly" attack on his country, in a phone call with his Kuwaiti counterpart.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran, with full determination, will take action to defend its sovereignty, people and national security, and will respond decisively to the Zionist regime's illegal and cowardly aggression," Araghchi told Kuwait's Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya, according to a statement from the Iranian foreign ministry

Iran's foreign ministry summoned on Friday the ambassador of Switzerland, which represents US interests in Tehran, state media said, following a wave of deadly strikes by Washington's ally Israel.

"During the meeting, the Islamic Republic of Iran conveyed its deep outrage and strong protest over this act of aggression by Israel and the support extended to it by the United States," said the official news agency IRNA.

A loud blast was heard Friday afternoon near a military airbase in Iran's western Hamedan province, state media reported, following a major Israeli attack on the country.

"A few hours ago, a loud blast was heard near Hamedan," more than 300 kilometres (186 miles) from the capital Tehran, the IRNA state news agency said, adding that "it was heard near the Nojeh airbase".

Iraq filed a complaint on Friday with the United Nations Security Council over Israel's "violation of Iraqi airspace" in a major attack on Iran, Baghdad's foreign ministry said.

"These practices constitute a flagrant violation of Iraq's sovereignty," the ministry said, calling on "the Security Council to assume its responsibilities" and act to "prevent the recurrence of such violations".

China MFA Spokesperson posted on X that China is closely following Israel’s attacks on Iran and is deeply concerned about the potential grave consequences of the operation.

China opposes actions that violate Iran’s sovereignty, security and territorial integrity, and opposes moves that escalate tensions and enlarge conflicts, he added.

French President Emmanuel Macron on Friday said Israel had the right to protect itself and called for "maximum restraint" from all parties following Israel's wave of strikes on Iran.

"France reaffirms Israel's right to defend itself and ensure its security," Macron said in English on X.

"To avoid jeopardising the stability of the entire region, I call on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and to de-escalate."

The Israeli military says it killed several senior leaders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps’ (IRGC) Air Force in a strike, including its commander, Amir Ali Hajizadeh.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said overnight Friday it “identified that the senior chain of command of the Air Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) had assembled in an underground command center to prepare for an attack on the State of Israel.”

“As part of the combined opening strike, IAF fighter jets struck the command center where the Commander of the IRGC’s Air Force, Amir Ali Hajizadeh, was located along with other senior officials,” the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement.

Iran's Atomic Energy Organisation said Friday that most of the damage from Israeli air strikes targeting its underground uranium enrichment facility at Natanz was at ground level.

"Most of the damage is on the surface level," said the organisation's spokesman Behrouz Kamalvandi, adding that there had been "no casualties" at the facility where the enrichment centrifuges are  housed underground.

At least 20 senior Iranian commanders including the head of the revolutionary guards, Aerospace Force Commander Amir Ali Hajizadeh, were killed in Israel's strikes on Iran on Friday, two regional sources told Reuters.

Syria said Friday it had closed its airspace in a "temporary" measure after Israel pounded Iran with a wave of strikes on its military and nuclear facilities.

Civil Aviation Authority chief Ashhad al-Salibi told the official SANA news agency that Syrian airspace would be "temporarily closed until 3 pm (1200 GMT), as part of precautionary measures we are taking to ensure the safety of civil aviation amidst the current regional developments".

Israel's defence ministry said Friday that Israeli air strikes across Iran had "neutralised" most of the senior leadership of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards' Air Force.

"The defence minister was informed that most of the Revolutionary Guard Air Force leadership was neutralised while convening at their underground headquarters," the ministry said in a statement.

UN nuclear watchdog to hold a special meeting of board of governors to discuss Israel's strikes on Iran, reports Reuters. An exceptional meeting of the U.N. nuclear watchdog's board of governors will be held to discuss Israel's strikes on Iran after at least one country on the board requested one at Friday's regular, quarterly session of the body, diplomats said.

Any country on the board can call a meeting under its rules. Iran, which is not on the board, requested a meeting and its call was supported by board members Russia, China and Venezuela, diplomats said. The diplomats gave differing accounts as to which board member was the first to clearly make the request.

The Israeli military says it has completed a widespread attack on air defences in western Iran. It said Friday that it had destroyed dozens of radar installations and surface-to-air missile launchers. Meanwhile, Jordan's Air Force said it intercepted missiles and drones in its airspace.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday said Israel's attack on Iran was “totally unjustified” as the Islamic Republic did not give any reason to the Jewish state to wage a war against it. “As far as I know, Iran did not give any reason to Israel to carry out attacks on it. Israel, of its own will, waged war against the country, calling it a preemptive attack,” Abdullah told reporters here.

If the world powers remain silent on Israel's aggression, it would be "very unfortunate", Abdullah said.

In a dangerous escalation of regional tensions, Israel launched a large-scale preemptive aerial assault on Iran early Friday, striking nuclear facilities, missile production centers and senior military leaders.

Pakistan on Friday condemned Israel's strikes on Iran by calling them "unjustified".  “Pakistan strongly condemns unjustified and illegitimate aggression by Israel against the Islamic Republic of Iran. Iran has the right to self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter," Pakistan's foreign office said.

UK is not currently providing military support to Israel to defend against Iran's retaliation, reports Reuters citing two British media outlets.

The Times newspaper cited defence sources as saying that Britain was not providing support to Israel on Friday morning.

Sky News separately reported that British warplanes were not currently involved in helping to defend Israel's skies.

In October 2024, when Iran fired a salvo of ballistic missiles at Israel, Britain said two of its fighter jets and an air-to-air refuelling tanker played a part in attempts to prevent further escalation, but that the jets did not engage any targets.

Jordan, Iraq, and Iran have closed their airspace amid the escalating conflict between Tel Aviv and Tehran.

Iraq’s Ministry of Transportation confirmed a “temporary closure of Iraqi airspace” and the full suspension of air traffic, according to the Associated Press.

"The ministry of transport closes Iraqi airspace and suspends air traffic at all Iraqi airports," the Iraq News Agency reported.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday called Israel a "longtime global thug" which "arrogantly" believes it can do anything as it enjoys US support.

Vijayan was responding to reporters' queries about his view on reports of Israel carrying out strikes at various places in Iran early Friday.

The state news agency cited an anonymous senior military official saying that the interceptions were carried out based on military assessments indicating that the missiles and drones were likely to fall within Jordanian territory, including populated areas, posing a potential threat to civilian safety.

Major General Hossein Salami, the Commander-in-Chief of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), was killed in Israel’s Operation Rising Lion airstrikes, reports AFP quoting Iranian media reports.

Salami, considered one of the most powerful figures in Iran’s military establishment, oversaw the IRGC the country’s most influential armed force and reported directly to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Read more

The IAEA says Iran’s nuclear site at Isfahan had not been impacted by the Israeli attacks.

Earlier, the UN nuclear agency had said Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant, on the Persian Gulf coast, “has not been targeted.”

“Oman holds Israel responsible for this escalation and its repercussions, and calls on the international community to take a clear and firm position to stop this dangerous approach, which threatens to exclude diplomatic solutions and undermine the security and stability of the region,” Oman’s government said.

Iran’s armed forces chief of staff, Mohammad Bagheri, was killed in Israeli strikes on multiple cities, including Tehran, state media and AFP report.

“In the last few hours, Iran has launched more than 100 drones toward Israel, and all the defense systems are acting to intercept the threats," Brig Gen Effie Deffrin, Israel's chief army spokesman said.

Defrin added that some 200 Israeli fighter jets participated in the operation, striking some 100 targets, and that the attacks were continuing.

Saudi Arabia on Friday reprimanded Israel for its strikes on Iran, despite long-running tensions between the kingdom and the Islamic Republic.

“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia expresses its strong condemnation and denunciation of the blatant Israeli aggressions against the brotherly Islamic Republic of Iran, which undermine its sovereignty and security and constitute a clear violation of international laws and norms,” the country’s foreign ministry said in a statement.

Sixteen long- and ultra-long haul Air India flights were diverted on Friday following Israel launching an attack on Iran and the subsequent closure of the Iranian airspace, the airline said on Friday.

The private full service carrier, in a travel advisory also said arrangements are being made to fly passengers to their destinations.

In a major escalation that could redefine the Middle East’s nuclear and military balance, Israel launched a sweeping air assault on Iran early Friday, striking multiple high-value nuclear and military targets, including the deeply sensitive Natanz enrichment complex.

China has issued advisories to its citizens in Israel and Iran of the "complex and severe" security situation in those countries on Friday, adding a warning to those in Israel to prepare for possible missile and drone attacks.

The Chinese embassy in Israel told citizens there to strengthen their security precautions, avoid going out unnecessarily or to areas surrounding military units and sensitive institutions as the "security situation on the ground is complex and severe".

"Delhi Airport operations are running smoothly. However, due to evolving airspace conditions over Iran, Iraq and neighbouring region, some flight schedules have been impacted. Passengers are advised to contact their respective airlines for the latest updates regarding their flights. We strongly urge all passengers to rely only on official sources for accurate and up-to-date information," said Delhi Airport in its passenger advisory.

In a dramatic escalation, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday confirmed that Israel has carried out targeted strikes on nuclear-related sites inside Iran, marking the launch of what he called 'Operation Rising Lion,' a sustained military campaign aimed at dismantling Iran’s nuclear weapons capability.

“Moments ago, Israel launched Operation Rising Lion, a targeted military operation to roll back the Iranian threat to Israel’s very survival,” Netanyahu said in a televised address. “This operation will continue for as many days as it takes to remove this threat.” Read more

The GOP leader said in a statement the U.S. Senate “stands ready to work with President Trump and with our allies in Israel to restore peace in the region and, first and foremost, to defend the American people from Iranian aggression, especially our troops and civilians serving overseas.”

Israel Defence Forces (IDF) Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir has said Israel launched the military offensive against Iran's nuclear programme "because the time had come; we'd reached the point of no return".

"We cannot wait for another time to act, we have no choice," Zamir said.

Iran is planning to 'give a harsh response' to an Israeli attack launched early on Friday against its nuclear programme, an Iranian security source told Reuters.

"The response to the Israeli attack will be harsh and decisive," the official said, adding that details of Iran's retaliation "are being discussed at the highest levels" when asked whether the attack would be imminent.

Iranian state television has put a black band over the corner of its broadcast, suggesting the attack had been significant enough to spark public mourning.

"Tonight, Israel took unilateral action against Iran. We are not involved in strikes against Iran and our top priority is protecting American forces in the region. Let me be clear: Iran should not target U.S. interests or personnel," said Rubio.

"It's a really unwelcome development in the Middle East. The risk of miscalculation is high. That region does not need any more military action, and risk associated with that," says New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon.
