Still using an older iPhone or iPad to watch YouTube? You might want to check your device’s software version. YouTube has just updated its iOS app, and it now needs iOS 16 or later to work, as per report by Macrumours. That means the app will stop working on a bunch of older Apple devices.
Here’s the list of affected iPhones:
–iPhone 6s
–iPhone 6s Plus
–iPhone 7
–iPhone 7 Plus
–First-generation iPhone SE
If you’ve got an iPod touch (7th generation), the app won’t work there either.
As for iPads, the YouTube app now needs iPadOS 16 or newer. So if you’re using an iPad Air 2 or iPad mini 4, you’re out of luck too.
The good news? You can still watch videos using a web browser. Just head to m.youtube.com on Safari or any browser you use. But be prepared—the web version doesn’t offer the same smooth experience as the app, and some features might be missing.
This update is part of YouTube’s push to support newer features and keep things running securely, but it also means older devices are slowly being left behind. If YouTube is something you use a lot, and you’re on one of these older devices, it might be time to think about an upgrade.
