WhatsApp keeps dropping support for older devices and operating systems to keep developing the platform with new features, security updates and advanced architecture. In the latest update, WhatsApp has started sending a notification to users about dropping support for older iOS versions. This means iPhone users running the older version of the operating system won’t be able to use WhatsApp.
WhatsApp dropping support for these iOS versions
According to the notification, WhatsApp will drop support for the iOS version before iOS 15. This means, iPhones running iOS 15 or older will lose support for WhatsApp and the instant messaging app will stop working on these devices. The notification also mentions that this change will come into effect starting May 5, 2025. `
Currently, WhatsApp supports iOS 12 or newer. However, starting May 5, the platform will only support iPhones running iOS 15.1 or newer.
What you can do
There are a few things that you can try. First, upgrade your iPhone to the latest version of iOS available. For instance, if your device supports iOS 15.1 and you are still running iOS 15 or older, you can update it and keep using WhatsApp even after May 5, 2025.
In case your device has reached the end of its software update cycle and is stuck at the older iOS version, the only option for you is to upgrade to a newer model of iPhone that supports iOS 15.1 or newer. You can also look for an Android phone that runs a relatively newer version of the Android operating system.
TestFlight won’t help
If you are planning to do a workaround via TestFlight, keep in mind that this technique won’t work after May 5. The app will stop working even if you are running the beta version of the app.
