WhatsApp has announced a set of new features to enhance its Status updates, giving users more creative control and expressive tools to share everyday moments or important life events with their close contacts. These updates are designed to make Status—a feature that allows users to post disappearing photos, videos and text—more engaging and personalised.
One of the key additions is Layout, which lets users turn up to six photos into a custom collage using editing tools. This feature is meant to make multi-image storytelling simpler and visually appealing, whether you’re documenting a vacation or daily highlights.
Another major update is More with Music, which allows users to create Status posts focused entirely on songs. Users can now add a music sticker to show what they’re listening to or select a song to serve as the centrepiece of the Status update, setting the mood or theme for their post.
WhatsApp is also introducing Photo Stickers, which lets users turn any image into a sticker, resize or crop it, and add it to their Status. This brings additional freedom in how people decorate and personalise their updates.
A social feature called Add Yours has also been introduced. With this, users can post a prompt or question as part of a Status update—like “show me your weekend view”—and friends can respond with their own photos. Those responses can be shared back to their own Status, creating a chain of responses across social circles.
WhatsApp says these new features will begin rolling out to users in the coming months. The rollout will be gradual, and the features will become available globally over time.
These additions follow WhatsApp’s ongoing focus on privacy and personal expression. Status updates are only visible to selected contacts, and all content is protected by end-to-end encryption, just like messages and calls.
With this latest update, WhatsApp continues to evolve Status into a more expressive, creative space, encouraging users to share more moments with their closest circles.
