Google has joined Samsung and Microsoft in mocking Apple’s recently announced iOS 26 update. In a new ad, Google takes direct aim at three headline features of iOS 26, suggesting that Apple is only now catching up to functionality that Android devices have had for years. This latest dig follows similar responses from Samsung and Microsoft after Apple showcased its new “Liquid Glass” design and AI features at WWDC 2025.

In Google’s latest commercial, a conversation unfolds between a fictionalised Pixel 9 Pro and an iPhone 16 Pro. The iPhone brags about new features such as live translation in Messages, Hold Assist, and call screening. Each time, the Pixel counters by saying it had those capabilities “four,” “five,” or even “seven years ago.” The ad concludes with the iPhone inquiring about Pixel’s plans, subtly highlighting how Android has traditionally led in these areas.
Features under fire
Google’s ad specifically targets three features. First, Apple’s new live translation for Messages, which the Pixel notes has been part of its own feature set since at least the Pixel 6 era. Second, Hold Assist — similar to Google’s “Hold for Me” function that launched several years ago. And finally, the new call screening on iOS 26, a feature Pixel phones have had since 2018. All three are presented as “crazy coincidences” by the iPhone persona, a tongue-in-cheek way of highlighting Apple’s perceived lag.
Earlier jabs by Samsung and Microsoft
Samsung had earlier responded to the iOS 26 reveal with posts referencing the glass-like UI and live translation feature, both already present in its One UI and Galaxy AI offerings. Microsoft joined in by posting an image of its 2007 Windows Vista interface, subtly calling out Apple’s new macOS Tahoe 26 redesign as a recycled concept.
