Vivo is all set to shake things up in the foldable phone space once again. The last time the company launched a foldable phone in India, it managed to turn quite a few heads with its sleek design and impressive camera performance—two things that were rare in the foldable category at the time. And now, Vivo seems ready to go even bigger and better with its next foldable, the Vivo X Fold 5.
The phone will first make its debut in China on June 25, but the good news is that this time it won’t be limited to the Chinese market. As per a report by 91Mobiles, Vivo is expected to bring the X Fold 5 to India between July 10 and July 15. That means it could launch just days after Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7, making it a direct competitor in the high-end foldable segment.
Both Samsung and Vivo are expected to focus heavily on making their foldables slimmer and lighter, so it’s likely we’ll see the two brands go head-to-head not just in design but in overall performance as well. Honor is also expected to join the race with its Magic V3, which adds even more competition to the foldable space this year.
So, what do we know about the Vivo X Fold 5 so far?
For starters, Vivo is aiming to make this the thinnest and lightest foldable phone yet. The X Fold 5 is said to be around 2mm slimmer and 20 grams lighter than the previous Vivo X Fold 3 Pro. To achieve this, Vivo has used fourth-generation silicon-carbon anode battery technology, which helps fit a powerful battery into a slimmer body. This battery is also designed to work in extremely cold conditions—even as low as -30°C, thanks to second-gen semi-solid-state battery tech.
Durability is also getting a boost. The Vivo X Fold 5 is expected to come with a range of water and dust resistance ratings, including IPX8, IPX9, and even IPX9+ for underwater folding. It also has an IP5X rating for dust protection, which is important for long-term foldable use.
On the display front, Vivo isn’t holding back. The X Fold 5 is expected to feature 8T LTPO panels on both the main and cover displays. These displays are capable of 4,500 nits of local peak brightness and support high-frequency PWM dimming, which should make for a smoother and more eye-friendly viewing experience.
Camera lovers will be happy too. The foldable will feature a triple-camera system with Zeiss lenses, including a periscope telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, which should offer solid versatility for photography.
And yes, it’s going to look good while doing all this. The phone will launch in three color options—green, titanium, and white.
With all these upgrades, the Vivo X Fold 5 looks like it’s ready to give Samsung’s upcoming foldable a serious challenge. If Vivo nails the pricing and availability in India, this could be one of the most exciting foldable phone launches of the year.
