Samsung has confirmed that it will discontinue support for the DeX for PC app on Windows with the upcoming One UI 7 update. The decision, quietly revealed on Samsung’s UK website, shifts focus toward the “Link to Windows” feature for connecting Galaxy devices to PCs, according to a report by Android Authority.
Key changes to DeX
Samsung DeX allows Galaxy users to open a desktop-like interface from their smartphone on a PC, enabling seamless file transfers and multitasking. However, with One UI 7, the company will no longer support the Windows version of the app. In a statement, Samsung encouraged users to transition to the Link to Windows feature, which offers similar functionality.
The official announcement, found in the fine print on the DeX page, read:
“The DeX for PC on Windows OS will end support from One UI 7 version. We encourage customers to connect mobile phone and PC through the Link to Windows feature.”
In addition to the DeX update, One UI 7 will phase out third-party edge panels, another popular feature among Galaxy users. While Samsung has not provided further details about the discontinuation, the move suggests a streamlining of the user interface.
The DeX for PC app has been a fan-favourite feature, offering a convenient way to extend mobile productivity. Its discontinuation marks a significant shift in Samsung’s strategy, leaning on Microsoft’s Link to Windows for integration between Galaxy smartphones and PCs.
