The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Fold 7 smartphones are expected to launch later this year, as the successors to the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Fold 6. These existing foldable smartphones come with the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, and previous reports suggested that this year’s foldables will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. However, a new report now suggests that the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will be powered by an in-house Exynos flagship chipset.

According to a new Korean Media report by ChosunBiz, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 will be powered by the company’s own Exynos 2500 chipset. The mass production for the handset is expected to begin this month, and 200,000 units are tipped to be manufactured by June, with a release in July. Moreover, the report adds that Samsung has leaned towards an Exynos chip over Snapdragon for the first time in its foldables due to price and production concerns.

The purported foldable smartphone was previously rumoured to have passed all internal tests with the latest Qualcomm flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Elite. However, the decision to use the Exynos 2500 was primarily due to the pricing differences between the two chipsets, and as the brand aims to manufacture only 200,000 units of the Galaxy Z Flip 7, it would be more feasible to power the Flip 7 with an in-house chipset.
