Artificial Intelligence has taken centre stage all across the world. Be it your smartphone or a laptop, there are AI features that are aimed at making things simpler and easier for users. And, Samsung has been the front-runner in the AI race, especially when it comes to offering one in its devices. The company already has a huge list of AI features clubbed under the Galaxy AI umbrella and Intel with its latest 14th-generation Core Ultra series processors has made things easier for them by offering in-built NPU to support AI applications and features right on the device.
When it comes to the specifications, the Galaxy Book4 Pro comes with a Core Ultra7 155h processor paired with 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD storage. That’s a pretty powerful setup for most use-case scenarios. The laptop also packs an integrated GPU which is powerful enough to handle day-to-day graphics duties along with some graphic-intensive tasks like editing photos, videos, etc.
I used the Samsung Galaxy Book4 Pro for almost a month and here’s what I think about it.
Design and display
When it comes to design and build quality, Samsung rarely disappoints and the Galaxy Book4 Pro is no different. The all-metal chassis is built like a tank with a top-notch fit and finish. The build quality is solid and there’s zero flex whether it's the keyboard deck or the lid. The hinge, well, it’s smooth and rigid enough to hold the display in place even when you are on the go. At the same time, the hinge and the entire laptop’s weight are well distributed to execute the one-finger opening and closing trick. Not once did the laptop’s bottom topple while opening or closing the lid.
If that’s not enough, the overall design has a sort of wedge shape which has allowed Samsung to put all the necessary I/Os. For instance, there is a full-sized USB port onboard along with a microSD card slot, HDMI port and two USB Type-C ports.
Talking about the display, it's beautiful. That 15.60-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel is full of colours, and contrast and is gorgeous. Most importantly, it’s pretty bright too – makes things easier to work outdoors or in almost any scenario.
Also, it’s a touch-screen panel and Samsung hasn’t clubbed the SPen on this one, but the touch response is accurate and works as it should. And, not having a SPen here is not a big deal considering it’s not the 360 model and using S Pen in regular laptop mode is a little inconvenient. But, if you want one, you can get it separately and use it as per your convenience because the laptop supports SPen.
Samsung Galaxy Book4 Pro: Performance
Intel’s new Core Ultra 7 155h series processors are powerful and powerful enough to handle almost any task you send its way. But, that’s not it. The onboard Intel’s integrated GPU is also powerful enough to handle graphics-intensive tasks without breaking a sweat. Let me explain it via some use-case scenarios.
Before that, you should a few things about the Core Ultra 7 155H. It’s a 16-core CPU paired with 6 performance cores, 8 efficiency cores and 2 low-power efficiency codes. The maximum clock speed is 4.8GHz
Case 1: Duty calls
If your office work is like mine – more browsing, even more writing, checking email, continuous notifications, music and scanning social media platforms, then the Galaxy Book4 is a really good option for you. The onboard 16GB RAM and faster storage paired with the Intel Core Ultra7 makes things faster and get the job done quicker. Apps load without delays, the laptop can handle more than 50 tabs at a time with other apps running in the background and most importantly, the battery life is impressive. I will get to the battery later, For now, if you use the laptop for all the things mentioned above, the Intel Core Ultra 7-powered Galaxy Book4 can handle it without any issues.
Plus, Intel has also integrated the Unison app with the laptop which allows users to connect their Android or iOS smartphone and use it to get notifications, calls, transfer data and more.
Case 2: The AI prowess in apps and services
It’s a Samsung laptop and as already mentioned it comes with tons of AI-powered features. Intel Core 7 Ultra has dedicated NPU and Intel has designed the processor to intelligently segregate the tasks. The processor automatically detects whether an application needs more NPU, CPU or GPU to function smoothly and that’s a big plus here. Not only it make the laptop handle AI-powered features offered by Windows 11, but also within applications like OpenVino, Filmora, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, etc.
I used the laptop to edit a few high-resolution photos in Photoshop and used the generative AI features and the laptop did manage to handle all those intensive AI features. As mentioned, while doing these AI tasks, the load was significantly more on NPU than CPU and GPU which allows the laptop – other tasks running to function without throttling down the performance.
Case 3: Gaming
The Galaxy Book4 Pro is not exactly a gaming laptop, but if you want, it can do some lightweight gaming at a relatively good frame rate. Just don’t expect to play triple-A titles at some unrealistic graphic settings. If your interest is at the right place, the laptop can handle games relatively better than one can expect.
Samsung Galaxy Book4 Pro: Thermals, battery and more
As I have already mentioned the processor does a good job of segregation the tasks and assigning them to the right part of the processor for optimal performance, Well, that is not just for performance, it also helps keep the overall temperature down. That’s the reason why the Galaxy Book4 Pro keeps its cool even under heavy load. But the processor isn’t the only thing that gets the credit for this, the overall thermal design of the Galaxy Book4 Pro is pretty efficient too.
In terms of battery life, under normal usage, the laptop offers around 7 hours of battery life on a single charge with an automatic brightness feature turned on and Wi-Fi connected all the time.
Verdict
Samsung Galaxy Book4 Pro has a lot to offer for the asking price of Rs 1,34,990. It offers an impressive display, solid design, sufficient ports and performance that can cater to all sorts of users whether you are a working professional or a content creator who likes to edit photos, and videos on their PC. On top of them, the AI performance and task management capabilities of Intel Core Ultra 7 are some of the best you can find in the market. This not only offers smooth performance, but good battery life too.
So, if you are looking for a laptop that offers a balance of features, design and performance then Galaxy Book 4 Pro is a good option to go with.
