Meta has just launched the Aria Gen 2 smart glasses, and they’re packed with host of cool upgrades. These aren’t your everyday smart glasses—they’re made for researchers exploring new possibilities in AI, robotics, and smart technology.
What’s New? The Aria Gen 2 comes with some exciting improvements:
–Better Sensors: More advanced cameras, motion sensors, and microphones. Plus, a heart rate monitor and a tiny mic in the nosepad that picks up only the wearer’s voice—handy for AI training.
–On-Device AI: The glasses process eye tracking, hand tracking, and speech recognition right on the device, making them faster and more efficient.
–All-Day Battery Life: They last 6–8 hours on a single charge, and at just 75 grams, they’re super lightweight.
–Clearer Audio: Open-ear speakers let users interact with AI without blocking out the world around them.
Meta’s research teams will be using these glasses, but they’re also opening them up to universities and companies working on AI-powered tech.
How can it be used?
The first Aria glasses have already helped researchers do some pretty amazing things. At Georgia Tech, they were used to train robots to help with household tasks. BMW tested them to explore smart car integrations.
They’re also making life easier for people with vision impairments. Carnegie Mellon University used them to help blind and low-vision individuals navigate indoor spaces. Now, the company Envision is taking it up a notch with AI-powered guidance and spatial audio using the Aria Gen 2 glasses.
