A new, free DLC is coming to the Metroidvania action-adventure game Hollow Knight: Silksong. Titled “Sea of Sorrow”, the free DLC will be released in 2026, Adelaide-based game developer Team Cherry announced. The developers added that they would reveal more information related to the Sea of Sorrow DLC shortly before its launch.
Hollow Knight: Silksong – Sea of Sorrow continues the adventures of Hornet, former princess of the fallen kingdom of Hallownest. She will “voyage across and beneath the salt-stricken seas in this thrilling expansion,” Team Cherry noted in its announcement. As is expected, there will be new areas to explore and new bosses to take on.
Team Cherry did not reveal much about the Sea of Sorrow DLC; instead, it provided a brief overview of the upcoming Hollow Knight Silksong expansion.
“New areas, bosses, tools, and more! Hornet’s adventures continue in our nautically themed expansion, coming free for all players next year. We’ll keep further details a secret for now, but expect additional info shortly before Hollow Knight: Silksong - Sea of Sorrow releases,” the developer noted in a post on the game’s Steam page. There is a short teaser for the upcoming DLC, too, but it does not reveal anything substantial.
Hollow Knight: Silksong launched for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC (via Steam and Gog.com), Mac, Linux, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2 on September 4, 2025. The 2D action-adventure game features the adventures of its protagonist, Hornet, in the insect kingdom of Pharloom. The former princess is a master at acrobatic combat and will need her lethal skillset as there are over 200 enemies and more than 40 legendary bosses in the game.
