Google Photos now lets you edit images by simply asking

Google has introduced a new feature in Google Photos that allows users to make edits by voice or text commands. Announced at the Made by Google event, the update will debut on Pixel 10 devices in the US before expanding more widely.

The new “edit by asking” option is powered by Google’s Gemini AI, enabling users to describe the edits they want in natural language. For example, you can request to “remove cars in the background,” “restore this old photo,” or simply say “make it better” and let the app decide. The tool supports both practical adjustments such as lighting corrections and distraction removal, as well as creative changes like adding backgrounds or inserting new objects. Google says users can refine results through follow-up requests and suggestions provided by the app.

Alongside this feature, Google Photos is adding support for C2PA Content Credentials, a standard aimed at improving transparency around image creation and AI involvement. The Pixel 10 series will be Google’s first smartphones to include the credentials by default in images taken with the Camera app, whether or not AI tools are used.

Both features will launch initially on Pixel 10 and later expand to Google Photos on iOS and Android in the coming weeks.
