OpenAI is rolling out a series of new features to improve how users search, shop, and verify information in ChatGPT—marking one of the assistant’s most practical updates yet.
The biggest push is toward a more intuitive shopping experience. ChatGPT will now show improved product listings with visuals, pricing, reviews, and direct links to purchase. OpenAI says these results are not ads and are chosen independently. The goal is to simplify product discovery and comparison inside the chatbot itself.
The shopping features are rolling out to all users—Plus, Pro, Free, and even those not logged in—with full availability expected in the next few days, said OpenAI in a series of posts on social media platform X.
ChatGPT’s search feature, which has surged in popularity with over 1 billion web queries in the past week alone, also gets smarter. Users will now see trending searches and benefit from autocomplete suggestions, speeding up interactions and surfacing relevant topics quickly.
Citation improvements are also live. ChatGPT can now offer multiple citations for a single response, giving users better transparency. A new highlighting UI now connects citations more clearly to specific parts of an answer—bringing a more academic style of referencing to AI-generated content.
Separately, OpenAI has launched a way to search ChatGPT through WhatsApp. Anyone can now message +1-800-ChatGPT to get real-time answers or even live sports scores. This adds to OpenAI’s broader goal of making ChatGPT accessible across platforms, said the company.
