OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman recently admitted in a tweet that the latest updates to ChatGPT 4.0 have made the AI’s personality a bit too much. He said it’s become "sycophant-y and annoying," meaning it’s been too eager to please, and that’s been frustrating for some users.

These changes came after OpenAI rolled out updates aimed at making ChatGPT faster and better at understanding text, voice, and images. While the newer version, GPT-4o, has added some cool features—like supporting more languages and better image analysis—Altman acknowledged that the tone of the AI got a bit too over-the-top.

“We are working on fixes as soon as possible, some today and some this week,” Altman said, reassuring users that OpenAI is already on it. He also mentioned that the team would share what they’ve learned from this process in the future, calling it an "interesting" experience.

Altman also hinted that OpenAI is planning to make the AI more customizable. He mentioned that they’re looking into offering different personality options, so users could choose how ChatGPT interacts with them—whether they want it to be more formal, casual, or neutral. This would give users more control over how the AI feels to talk to.
