Bengaluru is often called the tech capital of India and for good reason. The city has always found clever, everyday ways to blend technology with tradition. Whether it’s auto drivers flashing QR codes on smartwatches or shops using virtual receptionists, Bengaluru has had its fair share of “peak tech” moments. The latest one? A saree shop using a ChatGPT-style mobile screen to grab attention ahead of the Varamahalakshmi festival.

On August 5, a photo of this creative ad started making the rounds online. It showed what looked like a ChatGPT interface on a phone screen, with the question, “Why is Varamahalakshmi festival celebrated?” Instead of using flashy discounts or traditional posters, the shop used this clever idea to connect with buyers in a fun and modern way. The ad went viral, and people couldn’t stop talking about it.

Social media users were quick to celebrate the ad as yet another “Only in Bengaluru” moment. One user pointed out how this is a fresh upgrade from the older trend where shops used Google search bar-style banners to catch attention. “Local saree shop in Bangalore using ChatGPT mobile interface for an ad is a first,” the post read. “Just Bangalore things, I guess.”

The festival, celebrated on August 8 this year, sees women across South India shopping for sarees and traditional wear. It’s a busy season for clothing stores, and the AI-inspired ad helped this shop stand out from the crowd.
