Apple’s big event, the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) ,is happening tomorrow, June 9, and all eyes are on what the tech giant has in store. While many companies are racing ahead with AI features, Apple is taking a slightly different route this time. Instead of focusing heavily on artificial intelligence, Apple is expected to talk more about new designs, useful tools, and small improvements to how its devices work.
Here are five of the biggest things we expect Apple to announce at WWDC 2025:
1. A new look for iPhones, iPads, Macs and more
One of the biggest changes Apple is expected to show off is a fresh design for all of its devices — iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV, and even its Vision Pro headset. The new design will have a more modern and airy feel, with more light, transparency, and cleaner buttons and icons.
While the basic shapes of app icons aren’t changing much, things like toolbars and pop-up menus will look different and hopefully be easier to use. Apple is also updating widgets — like the ones for weather, calendar, or stocks — so they match the new look.
2. Say hello to iOS 26
Instead of calling their software updates “iOS 18” or “macOS 15,” Apple will now name them by year. So the upcoming updates will be called iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS 26, and so on — even though they’re launching this year.
Along with the new names, a few core apps are getting big makeovers. The Phone app is being redesigned so you can see your favorite contacts, recent calls, and voicemails all in one screen. The Safari browser will look more sleek and transparent. The Camera app is also being cleaned up to make it easier to use, especially with all the new photo and video options Apple has added in recent years.
3. Small steps in AI, but nothing too flashy
Even though many were hoping for major AI announcements, Apple is expected to take a more low-key approach this year. One of the main AI features will be live translation — for calls, texts, and even through AirPods.
Developers (people who make apps) will also be allowed to use Apple’s AI tools for the first time, which means they can build new smart features into their own apps.
Other small upgrades include an improved Shortcuts app (which helps you create quick actions), a power-saving mode for iPhones that uses AI, and a new emoji feature called Genmoji that lets you combine emojis into fun new ones.
4. Making iPads more work-friendly, and updates for Vision Pro
Apple is planning to make iPads more useful for work. A new update will allow iPads to work more like Macs, especially if you use a keyboard and trackpad. You’ll also be able to use Preview, a Mac app that lets you open and edit PDF files, on both iPhones and iPads now.
The Vision Pro headset will also get some cool updates, like eye-scrolling (yes, you scroll just by moving your eyes!) and support for motion controllers, like the ones used with PlayStation VR. These features will make the headset easier to use and more fun for gaming and creative work.
5. Two new apps Preview and Games
Two new apps will come pre-installed with the next update. First, the Preview app — a favorite on Mac for editing PDFs and documents — is finally coming to iPhone and iPad. It’ll make things like signing forms or highlighting text much easier.
Second is a new Games app, where you can find games you’ve downloaded and explore Apple Arcade titles in one place. Apple hopes this will give gaming a bigger push on its devices, though early impressions suggest it might not be as exciting as it sounds.
What’s Not Coming — Yet
If you were hoping for a major upgrade to Siri, or a totally new Calendar or Health app, you might have to wait until next year. Apple is working on big updates in those areas, but they won’t be ready in time for this event.
All in all, Apple seems to be playing it safe this year. Instead of trying to make a splash with bold AI moves like Google or Microsoft, Apple is focusing on what it knows best — polishing its software, making devices easier to use, and slowly adding smart features where they make sense. It might not be flashy, but it could be a solid step forward for Apple fans.
