Apple is all set for the launch of the upcoming iPhone 17, and this year the production is happening in both India and China from day one. In fact, Apple has already been making new iPhones in India and China at the same time since 2023.
For years, most iPhones were made only in China. But recently Apple has been shifting more production to India. The goal is to make about half of all iPhones in India in the next few years. A big focus has been to avoid any delays in production in India and start manufacturing new iPhones there at the same time as in China.
The iPhone 17 continues this plan. Foxconn, the company that puts most iPhones together, has already started trial production in India. Reports say they are sending parts from China to India and testing the assembly lines before the actual production begins. If everything goes smoothly, full production could start by August. That would make sure enough stock is ready before the usual September launch.
Apple is also hoping that having more iPhones made in India will help serve global markets like the United States. It is also a way to reduce risks from any changes in tariffs or trade rules with China.
Some reports suggest it has not been completely easy. There are claims that China has made it harder for engineers to get travel approvals for India. Many Chinese workers at Foxconn’s India plants have also returned to China in recent months.
Even with these issues, Apple seems focused on making India a bigger part of its production plans. With the iPhone 17, the company continues building new iPhones in both India and China from the first day of production. This could be another step toward reducing its dependence on just one country for manufacturing.
