If you're an Apple fan, there’s a fun new rumor making the rounds. The next big macOS update might be named after one of California’s most beautiful lakes — Lake Tahoe.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says Apple could call macOS 26 macOS Tahoe, following its tradition of naming Mac updates after iconic places in California. Remember when they used names like Yosemite, Monterey, and Sonoma? Before that, they went with big cats like Tiger and Lion. Now, it seems Tahoe might be next on the list.
So why Lake Tahoe? Well, this lake is known for its crystal-clear water that reflects the sky and mountains around it, almost like glass. Gurman says this matches the new look Apple is planning for macOS 26, with more see-through windows, buttons, and icons.
Apple is expected to officially reveal all the updates including iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and watchOS 26 at its big WWDC 2025 event on Monday, June 9. That’s just around the corner.
And in case you’re not familiar with Lake Tahoe, here’s why it’s so special: it’s the biggest alpine lake in North America and one of the deepest in the US. It sits high up in the Sierra Nevada mountains and is a favorite spot for hiking, skiing, boating, and just soaking in the view. It’s truly a year-round destination.
If the rumor is true, macOS Tahoe could bring a bit of that calm, scenic beauty to your Mac. Whether you're into tech or just love nature, this name feels like a good fit.
