Apple MacBook Pro lineup is set to feature some significant hardware upgrades next year, according to a report. The company could switch from its current generation of mini-LED screen panels to OLED panels for its upcoming MacBook Pro model, which is slated to come out in the latter half of 2026. Moreover, the company is considering a pill-shaped display cutout for these laptops to house the camera and sensors.
Apple MacBook Pro 2026 lineup: Expected hardware changes
Citing industry sources, a report by Digitimes citing market research firm Omdia suggests that Apple's first MacBook with an OLED display will be launched in late 2026. The report also claims that these OLED panels will be supplied to Apple by Samsung Display, which is a division of the South Korean tech conglomerate. Additionally, it could be powered by the upcoming M6 chipset.
This means that the 2026 lineup of the MacBook Pro series could offer a brighter display, a higher contrast ratio, and vibrant colours. The report also adds that Samsung has made heavy investments in the development of these Gen 8.6 OLED panels, as these easily merge with bigger glass, and will reportedly be a better fit for laptops and monitors. This also reduces manufacturing costs.
The switch to OLED is expected to be the MacBook Pro's first major redesign since 2021. Moreover, this upcoming lineup could be the thinnest possible series from the company, without compromising on battery life or major new features. Previously, it was reported that the OLED MacBook Pro will feature a pill-shaped or hole-punch cutout in the display instead of a notch, which was first introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro.
