Causes of gas leak

Vibration-related damage: The compressor motor generates vibrations, and if components are not securely fixed, the movement can weaken connections and cause leaks.
Installation issues: Improper installation can create weak points in the system, making it more susceptible to leaks over time.
Pinhole leaks: Small, difficult-to-detect perforations can develop in the refrigerant lines, leading to gradual leakage.

While refrigerant leaks can be inevitable over time, certain precautions can help delay or reduce their occurrence:
Opt for copper condenser coils: Copper coils are more resistant to corrosion compared to aluminum, offering better longevity. Although aluminum condensers may be more affordable, they are prone to oxidation, which accelerates corrosion.
Ensure proper placement of the outdoor unit: Installing the outdoor unit in a shaded area can improve cooling efficiency and prolong its durability.
Cover the unit during off-season: Protecting the outdoor unit when not in use, especially during winter, can reduce exposure to environmental factors that contribute to wear and tear.
Regular maintenance: Periodic servicing by professionals can help identify early signs of leakage and prevent further damage.
How can this prevent ACs from catching fire?
The fire part is actually not related to the gas leak directly. It can be due to several other reasons, such as subpar installation, open wires, or clogged vents in the blower unit that can put an extra load on the compressor, leading it to overheat and burst. All these things can lead to AC catching fire. The gas leak, however, can add propel this phenomenon as the gas can be flammable. Although the new R32 coolant is less flammable, it is still flammable, and if the AC gas is leaking from somewhere and there’s a spark or something, it can lead to a massive fire.
