Artificial intelligence expertise significantly boosts employability, a survey of software professionals has found.
"Nearly all respondents in India (99%) believe this skill makes them more attractive candidates, underlining the growing importance of AI across various fields," a report by Microsoft-owned developer platform GitHub, which was released on August 21, said.
The online survey involved 2,000 software professionals —500 respondents each in India, the US, Brazil, and Germany — working for organisations with 1,000 or more employees.
Around 56 percent of the respondents were of the belief that AI expertise boosted their chances of being hired.
The survey comes at a time when there is debate about whether AI and Generative AI are taking off from being at the proof-of-concept stage to production-grade solutions.
Almost all respondents said that AI coding tools would improve code security. The highest expectation of a “significant improvement” across all respondents globally was in India, with 41 percent subscribing to this view.
More than 80 percent of developers in India have experienced a perceived increase in code quality due to AI tools. Over 66 percent believe these tools would enhance their ability to meet customer requirements among other benefits.
Only 40 percent said their companies were encouraging the use of AI coding tools.

"This is an exciting time for engineering leaders–in India and globally–to embrace these advancements and propel their teams forward," GitHub chief operating officer Kyle Daigle was quoted as saying in a release.
Almost 70 percent of the respondents in India said the tools made it "easy" to adopt a new programming language or understand an existing codebase, while the rest said AI coding tools made it "very easy".
About three-fourths of the respondents said their organisations used AI tools for test generation at least "sometimes".
