Electronic Arts is having a blockbuster October. Just weeks after announcing a $55 billion deal to go private, EA confirmed that Battlefield 6 has shattered franchise records — selling over 7 million copies in its first three days.
By the numbers:
172 million online matches were played during the launch weekend.
Fans watched 15 million hours of Battlefield 6 streams.
It’s now the biggest opening ever for the Battlefield franchise, far outpacing 2021’s Battlefield 2042, which sold 4.2 million copies in its first week.

EA executives used the milestone to thank fans and staff. “First and foremost, we want to thank our players,” said Battlefield GM Byron Beede, while EVP Vince Zampella added, “We never take moments like this for granted.”
The bigger picture:
EA’s record game launch comes amid a massive transition. The publisher will soon be privately owned by a consortium including Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners. But not everyone’s celebrating — unionised EA employees have raised concerns that going private could reduce worker transparency and leverage.
