13-year-old cricket prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi has got another record to his name as he became the youngest cricketer to play a List A game, breaking a record which stood for almost 25 years. Vaibhav broke the record after making is debut for Bihar in the Vijay Hazare Trophy against Madhya Pradesh on Saturday (December 21). Earlier, Suryavanshi became the youngest player ever to get sold in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction in November. He bagged a massive contract worth Rs 1.1 crore from the Rajasthan Royals (RR).
At the age of 13 years, Vaibhav broke the record set by Ali Akbar (1999/00 season), the latter played at the age of 14 years for Vidarbha. Suryavanshi is also the youngest to play a Ranji game and represt India Under-19 prior to this remarkable feat.
How did his debut go?
Suryavanshi's debut proved to be short-lived as he was dismissed after scoring just 4 runs off two balls. While he hit a boundary on the first delivery, Aryan Anand Pandey sent him back to the pavilion on the very next ball.
Bihar could only post a modest total of 196, which Madhya Pradesh chased down comfortably. Rajat Patidar, a standout performer for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), struck a brilliant half-century, while Venkatesh Iyer, the Rs 23.75 crore Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) acquisition, remained unbeaten to seal the victory.
Suryavanshi secured his maiden IPL contract in November when he was picked by the Rajasthan Royals, a former champion franchise. He will have the privilege of playing under the mentorship of legendary Indian cricketer and coach Rahul Dravid.
Prior to this, Suryavanshi showcased his talent at the ACC Men's U19 Asia Cup, amassing 176 runs in five matches with an impressive average of 76 and a remarkable strike rate of 145.
