The IPL 2024 is heating up with some intense matches and spectacular performances. Last night's showdown between Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans was no exception, with players like Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag lighting up the field for the Royals.
Meanwhile, Shubman Gill, playing for the Gujarat Titans, had a promising start as his team chased a hefty target of nearly 200 runs. However, not all the buzz around the match was about cricket. A certain section of the audience took to chanting "Hamari Bhabhi Kaisi Ho, Sara Bhabhi Jaisi Ho," referencing the rumoured link between Shubman Gill and Sara Tendulkar, daughter of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar.
These chants, perhaps, meant in good humour, didn't sit well with many cricket fans and the official Rajasthan Royals' social media handle, which expressed its displeasure plainly. The team wrote, "Stop with those chants, guys."
Several fans voiced their concerns online, stating that such chants distract from the game and fail to give due credit to players who perform well.
A user wrote, "Indian fans are so cringe tbh
Focus on cricket rather than these cringe chants"
Another wrote, "I have always said, any fan who crosses the line isn't a fan anymore, but a fanatic."
Yet another wrote, "Bilkul chapri crowd ata he bhai kasam se SMS me…. Yaha sanju parag maar rahe…. Inko hamari bhabhi esi ho karke kamedy karni he."
The issue of these chants has been a recurring one for Shubman Gill, who has been linked with Sara Tendulkar by the rumour mill. Some fans have even called on Sachin Tendulkar to address this behaviour, highlighting how it overshadows the cricketing action on the field.
In a lighter moment, Shubman Gill, during a conversation with music icon Ed Sheeran, clarified that he is single, a statement that drew laughter. In spite of the ongoing rumours about him and Sara Tendulkar, Gill maintains a close friendship with her brother Arjun Tendulkar.
