Hours after Gautam Gambhir's press conference in Mumbai on Monday, ex-India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar criticised the head coach stating he "does not have the right demeanour" to speak to the media. Manjrekar took to 'X' and requested BCCI to keep Gambhir away from press interactions, and suggested skipper Rohit Sharma and chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar's name instead.
Gambhir was addressing the media before leaving for Australia for the much anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy, starting from November 22 in Perth. The head coach was thrown multiple questions around the team and the recent setback against New Zealand at home.

"Just watched Gambhir in the press conference. May be wise for BCCI to keep him away from such duties, let him work behind the scenes. He does not have the right demeanour nor the words when interacting with them. Rohit and Agarkar much better guys to front up for the media," Manjrekar posted on X.
During the press meet, Gambhir addressed several key points regarding India's preparations in the upcoming series against Australia, including player selection and workload management.
Gautam Gambhir comes out in support of under fire KL Rahul
KL Rahul's lean patch forced the management to drop him from India's playing XI in the Test format. He last featured in the Bengaluru Test against the Black Caps and was sidelined for the other two matches. Considering this BCCI sent Rahul and Dhruv Jurel to Australia early, where he took part in the second unofficial Test against Australia A, where he could only muster 14 runs.

With Rohit Sharma's availability in doubt for the series opener the Indian management is considering Rahul and Abhimanyu Easwaran as the two options for the opening slot, also pointed out by Gambhir during the presser.
Gambhir also highlighted Rahul's versatility, noting that his ability to bat at multiple positions makes him a valuable asset to the team. "KL Rahul can bat at the top, No. 3, or No. 6. He has the talent to do all of these roles, and he also keeps wickets in ODIs. Not many countries have a player like KL," Gambhir remarked.
