Food delivery giant Swiggy appears to have rolled out a new "smart saver" delivery option for select users in which multiple orders are bunched up and delivered accordingly. While the option is likely to cause delays in delivery, Swiggy has hailed it as an "eco-friendly" one. It, however, has not received a warm welcome from users with a few taking to social media to share how the "super saver" option is not helping them save anything.
Some Swiggy users also pointed out that the company should offer them discounts if they choose to wait longer for their food while others pointed out that they were offered a discount for a time when they opted for the "super saver".
"Initially they were giving Rs 5-10 discount on smart saver," commented X user Dhaval singh (@Dhavalsingh7). Speaking in favour of the incentive, another user (@chaosbongerwrote), "Right, if you're ordering well in advance but yes incentive should be a little 10-20 off. I'd go for it when I have tasks planned or I'm ordering before leaving my office."
Responding to the criticism, Swiggy wrote to one of its customers, "Hi Ankur, we get your displeasure and will ensure to share feedback with the team."
The food delivery platform made headlines earlier this week amid speculation that it might double the platform fee on food orders from Rs 5 to Rs 10 in February as it looks to trim losses ahead of its plans for a public listing later this year.
