A Mumbaikar topped the nation’s food-ordering charts this year with an astonishing 3,196 orders on Swiggy between January and November 2025 — the highest recorded by any user across India. The data, part of Swiggy’s 10th edition of How India Swiggy’d, captured the country’s shifting eating habits and food delivery patterns.
For this Mumbai customer, dining “all day” wasn’t a metaphor but a routine. With nearly nine orders every single day, their streak stood out even in a record-breaking year where India ordered 93 million biryanis, indulged in 44.2 million burgers, and turned snack time (3–7 pm) into a national mood.
The report underlined how food delivery evolved from indulgence to instinct — a pause between meetings, a late-night comfort, or simply a dependable part of daily life. Across metros and emerging cities alike, users returned to familiar flavours that anchored their routines, with biryani, burgers, pizzas and dosa staying firmly at the top of the charts.
Mumbai’s food story mirrors India
Mumbai, consistently among the top three cities across categories, played a defining role in India’s culinary behaviour this year. It ranked third in Bolt’s fastest deliveries, remained a major hub for Swiggy’s 99Store, and saw diners flocking to restaurants through Swiggy Dineout.
The city also stood out in celebrations. During Rakhi, metros saw dinner bills climbing to Rs 26,434, and on Valentine’s Day, premium dining bills in places like Pune and Patna hit five-figure highs as love—and food—took centre stage.
Culture of convenience
While the Mumbai super-user set a national record, the report showed India’s broader appetite for convenience. DeskEats expanded in corporate hubs, Incognito Mode surged with over 69 percent growth, and Food on Trains saw a remarkable 380 percent rise.
