A viral video showing a snake emerging from a car’s side mirror while the vehicle was in motion, has triggered widespread concern and prompted authorities to issue safety advisories for motorists. The incident occurred on Namakkal–Salem Road.
According to the post by Karnataka Portfolio on X, the driver noticed movement in the side mirror and was stunned to find a snake coiled inside. Fortunately, he managed to stop the car without incident, but experts warn that such situations can turn dangerous, especially on highways.
The video received more than three lakh views.
Wildlife experts urge caution
With the onset of cold and rainy weather, snakes and other small creatures often seek warmth inside parked vehicles. Authorities advise motorists to inspect cars thoroughly—under the bonnet, wheel arches, and side mirrors—before starting, particularly after long parking hours or in areas surrounded by vegetation. “A few minutes of precaution can prevent a major scare or accident,” the advisory said.
Social media reacts with humour and fear
The video sparked a mix of reactions online. One user wrote: “Not a blind spot. A bite spot.” Another joked: “Objects in the mirror are poisonous than they appear.” Others shared personal experiences: “This happened with me on a bike. I didn’t dare to touch the bike for more than 10 years.”
Some empathised with the reptile: “Goes to sleep in a nice dry cosy spot and wakes up in a giant contraption moving faster than it has ever travelled before—it must have been a nightmare for that poor little snake.”
