The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board, on March 21, stated that failure to install flow restrictor/aerator by bulk users by March 31 would result in a 50 percent water cut and a fine of Rs 5000.
"The amount of water supplied will be reduced by 50%, and a fine of Rs 5000 will be imposed as per Section 109 of the Water Board Act 1964," it stated.
BWSSB had issued an advisory urging the use of flow restrictor/aerator for bulk users such as malls, commercial complexes, apartments, government buildings, luxury hotels, restaurants, and public areas, including religious places.

"Despite the advisory instructions given to install flow restrictor/aerator in faucets in the above-mentioned places, there has been no progress so far," it said.
Officials stated that all bulk users should install aerators in accordance with Sections 33 and 34 of the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Act-1964 by March 31.
"Many borewells have dried up in Bengaluru city as the groundwater level has fallen due to heavy rains. In this regard, the cooperation of all is crucial to manage the water crisis."
Customers who adhere to this procedure properly will be awarded a certificate of 'Environment-Friendly Green Star User' by BWSSB. Instances of flow restrictor/aerator violations can be reported to the board's call center number 1916, the statement adds.
