Daimler India lays foundation stone for its new bus plant

The plant is expected to start production by the second quarter of 2015.

Daimler India Commercial Vehicles Pvt Ltd (DICV) celebrated the foundation stone laying ceremony of its new bus plant at Oragadam, Chennai. The plant has been setup with an investment of Rs 425 crores. The plant is expected to start production by the second quarter of 2015. It will initially be producing 1500 units and will later be expanded to roll out 4000 units.

The plant will be spread over an area of 27.91 acres and after being completed will be the first Daimler plant globally that will manufacture three brands of trucks, buses and engines under one roof.The plant will be producing both front and rear engined buses with categories ranging from 9, 16 to above 16 tonnes. A bus body building facility will also be part of the new plant and will be managed by M/s Wrightbus which has partnered with Daimler for building the bodies of its front-engined buses.
