The Atari 2600, a 46-year-old gaming console, which was released in 1977 is getting a new game on a collectable physical cartridge.
There will only be 500 of these made and it can be pre-ordered on Atari's site for $59.99. The 2,600 is one of the most popular gaming consoles ever released and for many was their first taste of gaming at home. It ceased production 15 years after its debut in 1992.

The game that is being released is called Save Mary, which was in development at the company for two years before being scrapped. The game is now being released in a completed state and challenges one or two players to build platforms and save a woman called Mary from falling into the abyss.
Atari says the title was a victim of the 1983 game crash, a large-scale recession in the games industry that occurred from 1983 to 1985 in the United States. The game was created by Atari's Tod Frye, who worked on the American adaptation of Pac-Man for the company.
Pre-ordering the limited-run cartridge will get you a silver collector's edition box and a full-color manual along with the physical game cartridge. There will only be 500 of these available.

Atari has been slowly releasing unreleased and rare games from their library in limited edition cartridge runs for the 2600 like Mr Run and Jump, and lost games like Aquaventure.
Each cartridge will be built to strict specifications from yesteryears. If you are worried you don't have a 2600 to play the game. Atari also sells an updated version of the console, called 2600+ on their website.
