In one of the fiercest escalations of recent years, India and Pakistan announced a series of diplomatic actions against each other in the aftermath of the deadly Pahalgam attack in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22.
The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsbility for the gruesome attack in which 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed.

On Wednesday, following the meeting of Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) chaired by PM Modi, India announced a series of extraordinary retaliatory measures against Pakistan till it "credibly and irrevocably" abjures its support for cross-border terrorism. In a tit-for-tat move a day later, Pakistan also announced measures against India.
Here are the diplomatic actions taken by both sides since yesterday:
India
* India said that the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan will be suspended. With this, the water supply from the Indus river and its distributaries - the Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, Beas, and Satluj will be stopped.
* India will revoke all visas of all Pakistani nationals effective April 27. Medical visas issued to Pakistani nationals will be valid only till April 29.
* Pakistani nationals will not be permitted to travel to India under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) visas. Any SVES visas issued in the past to Pakistani nationals are deemed cancelled. On Wednesday, it gave a 48-hour deadline to any Pakistani national currently in India under SVES visa to leave.
* Integrated Check Post at the Wagah-Attari border has been closed with immediate effect.
* India will also withdraw its military attaches from Pakistan. Meanwhile, all Pakistani military attaches in India have been declared persona non grata and asked to leave within 7 days.
* India will also withdraw its own defence, navy and air advisors from the Indian High Commission in Islamabad.
* India has withdrawn senior diplomatic staff from the Indian high commission in Islamabad. The overall strength of the Indian and Pakistan high commissions will be brought down to 30 from the present 55 through further reductions.
Pakistan
* Pakistan has announced the suspension of all trade with India, including to and from any third country through Pakistan.
* Pakistan has shut down its side of the Wagah-Attari border after similar action by India.
* It has closed its air space to all Indian-owned or Indian-operated airlines.
* Pakistan has said it will suspend the 1972 Simla Agreement which established the Line of Control (LoC).
* All Indian nationals currently in Pakistan under SVES have also been instructed to exit within 48 hours, except for Sikh pilgrims.
* Pakistan has also declared the Indian defence, naval and air advisers in Islamabad persona non grata, directing them to leave “immediately but not later than 30 April 2025”.
