The 2024 election has drawn political heavyweights into a multi-cornered race.

Situated in Maharashtra's Sangli district, the Islampur Assembly constituency plays a crucial role in the state’s political landscape. Created after the 2008 delimitation, it encompasses a significant portion of the Walva region and falls under the Hatkanangale Lok Sabha constituency. With its vibrant farming community, dynamic labor force, and thriving small-scale industries, Islampur’s socio-economic significance makes it a key battleground during elections.

This year, polling across Maharashtra’s 288 Assembly constituencies will take place on November 20, with vote counting scheduled for November 23. Like many constituencies, Islampur has seen major political realignments. The Shiv Sena’s split into two factions—one aligning with the BJP and the other partnering with Congress—has reshaped alliances. Similarly, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), long a dominant force in Islampur, is now divided, setting the stage for a compelling contest between the Mahavikas Aghadi (Congress-NCP-Shiv Sena alliance) and the BJP-led Mahayuti.

The 2024 election has drawn political heavyweights into a multi-cornered race. Sharad Pawar’s faction of the NCP has fielded veteran leader Jayant Patil, a name synonymous with stability and development in Islampur. However, Ajit Pawar’s breakaway NCP faction has nominated Nishikant Patil, introducing a new dynamic by potentially splitting the party’s traditional vote bank. Adding further intrigue are Satish Shivaji Date from the Rashtriya Samaj Paksha (RSP) and Amol Vikas from the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), ensuring a fiercely contested election.
