Confirmed COVID-19 cases in India stand at 1,73,763 . The death toll from the outbreak in India is at 4,971. Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi and Gujarat have reported the highest number of cases.

A record single-day spike of 1,163 fresh cases took the COVID-19 tally in Delhi to over 18,000 today and the death toll due to the disease mounted to 416, authorities said.
The previous daily high in fresh cases -- 1,106 -- was recorded on May 29.
This is the second consecutive day in Delhi when over 1,100 COVID-19 cases have been reported.
In a bulletin issued today, the Delhi health department said the death toll from coronavirus infection has risen to 416, and the total number of cases mounted to 18,549. (PTI)

There will be no curbs on economic activities post lockdown 4.0, which ends on May 31, top government sources have told CNN-News18.
Speaking to the channel on ‘rebooting India’, the sources said that economic activities across all sectors are likely to resume, within guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

The Maharashtra government has made spitting, smoking and consumption of tobacco products in public punishable offences in the state, which has reported the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the country so far.
State Health Minister Rajesh Tope made this announcement in a statement. The first-time violators will have to pay Rs 1,000 fine and perform public service for one day, he said.
The second-time offenders will have to pay Rs 3,000 fine and perform public service for three days, the minister added.

The Central Reserve Police Force has constituted a committee of its senior officers to find better ways of ensuring physical distancing in barracks and toilets used by jawans to check the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in its camps, officials told PTI.
They said the recent spread of the infection to about 140 personnel living in the 31st battalion of the country's largest paramilitary in Delhi's Mayur Vihar and a few other such instances have led to the decision of finding innovative ways to combat the new challenge of keeping the force "combat-ready amid the enhanced level of physical distance between troops."
Almost all personnel living in the 31st battalion have recovered now and as per the latest data, only about 170 personnel, out of over 400, are under treatment for COVID-19 in the CRPF.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday directed officials to provide an interim assistance of Rs 2,000 to those left destitute by the coronavirus lockdown and Rs 1,000 to those who do have ration cards to get foodgrains. He also asked officials to provide Rs 5,000 for the last rites of a destitute person.
During a meeting to review the lockdown, he directed officials to ensure immediate treatment to destitute people having serious illness even if they are not covered under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana or the Mukhyamantri Jan Arogya Yojana, an official spokesman said.
Russia has recorded nearly 9,000 new cases of the coronavirus, roughly consistent with the increases reported over the past two weeks. The national coronavirus task force said Saturday that 4,555 Russians have died of COVID-19 and 396,575 infections have been confirmed overall.
The relatively low mortality rate compared with other countries has prompted skepticism domestically and abroad.
Union Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal has written to all state chief ministers urging them to provide relief in electricity charges to the industry which is facing liquidity crunch due to lockdown.
The minister said that the industry has sought exemption of fixed electricity charges for their cold stores and power bills to be based on actual usage.
Badal urged all chief ministers to analyse power tariffs and provide suitable relief to the food processing industry.
Monuments coming under the archaeology and museum department of Rajasthan will reopen for tourists across the state from June 1 in areas that do not fall under containment zones and curfew areas, an official said on Saturday.
The monuments, except for the ones falling in containment zones and curfew areas, will be opened four days a week (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday) for the first two weeks with social distancing protocols to be properly followed, Director of the archaeology and museum department, Prakash Chandra Sharma, said.
The monuments will be open from 9 am to 2 pm in the first week and from 9 am to 1 pm and 3 pm to 5 pm in the second week.
