The second black box of the ill-fated Air India flight AI-171 that crashed last week near the Ahmedabad airport has been recovered, government officials investigating the accident said.
The crucial recovery of the cockpit voice recorder and the flight data recorder, which was found last week, will be key to digging out the factors that led to the tragedy, which killed 241 out of the 242 on board and several others on the ground.
PK Mishra, principal secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was inspecting the crash site on Sunday, was informed about the recovery.
Mishra, in a statement said, "I visited the crash site, the hostel, the hospital and the FSL... I also held a review meeting. The state agencies, the government of India agencies and others have responded very timely and effectively. I met some of the relatives of those who, unfortunately, died and were injured.”
Last week, in a major breakthrough, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), without giving details, said the Digital Flight Data Recorder (DFDR), commonly known as the Black box, was recovered from the "rooftop" at the crash site. The DFDR will help reconstruct the ill-fated flight’s final moments and is crucial to determining how the disaster occurred.
