With Padmaavat creating so much buzz, the box office was banking on the drama to bring in some money but the week gone by just proved that the box office is now riding on a safer bet. Less drama more money has been the mantra of the box office.

However, no drama and Bollywood sounds more of a classing case of irony.  Extending support to Akshay Kumar and his new film Padman, almost everyone in B-town has been posing with a sanitary napkin in hand. The campaign made its way to a lot of social media accounts of youngsters across the country. But was all the brouhaha worth it? At least not if opening day collections at the box office are considered a parameter.

With the fateful first Friday bringing in just Rs 10 crore to the box office, Padman didn’t seem to make the producers too rich.

Theres no reason for Mrs Funnybones to lose heart though because according to Boxofficeindia, Padman is likely to show strong growth of 35-40% on the second day. “This is strong growth after a Rs 10 crore opening. The film will hit the Rs 13 crore net mark which would be good but there is a chance for Rs 14 crore if the evening shows push further and that would be a very good result,” said their initial analysis.
